GAZA CRICKET 2007/2008
This year we had a 2 day side
in C1 and a 2 day side in C2 in Adelaide turf and Under11’s and an Under
13’s in NEJCA.
The U11’s we think had a good year although they did not win one game.
The improvement in these players has been fantastic and congratulations
to Matthew Millard for coaching the under 11’s.
The Under 13’s had a slow start and with only 5 players had to forfeit
there 1st game Matthew Brook put up his hand to coach the team with the
help of Michael Peck and with a few phone calls were able to form a
side. From the 1st game to the last every player improved and
although they didn’t win a game where very competitive.
The C2 team preformed quite well
considering the fill ins and finished 7th. The team was
competitive all year and with a little luck could have won a few more
games. Outstanding with the bat was Justin Keast with 534 runs and top
score of 134. Justin also won the C2 batting award. Another fine
performance with the ball was Andrew Hall with 15 wickets with best of
6/39.
The C1 side had a fantastic year
going through the year undefeated finishing top at the end of the minor
round. Winning the Semi Final against Pooraka. Gaza making 198 and
bowling Pooraka out for 116. Winning the semi final gave Gaza home
ground advantage for the Grand Final. The Grand Final was played between
Gaza and Concordia who finished 2nd on the ladder. Concordia
batted first and was bowled out for 83 and Gaza at stumps on 1st
day were 4 98 which gave us 1st innings lead. We batted on
the 2nd day and finished at 8 for 183 when Concordia conceded
the game. Gaza finally winning the Grand Final Best with the bowling was
Paul Wooton with 26 wickets best of 4/12. Best with the Batting was
Matthew Brook with 345 Runs
This year we are starting hopefully
with 3 junior sides and the 2 senior sides in B3 and C2.
My thanks go out to all the Parents
and Coaches who helped me out throughout the season and to all the mums
who supplied morning and afternoon teas. Comments come back that our
spreads are the best in the competition.
We will need Coaches for the Junior
sides next season and if you know anyone who would like to do this
please let me know. Also we will have the canteen open for the whole
season as the trial late this year was a success. Thanks to my wife Pam
and Donna for running the canteen and Debbie for stocking it. If anyone
has any ideas what we need in the canteen again please let me know.
