NEWSFLASH!!!! We are very
pleased to announce the appointment this week of our new Division 1 reserve
coach, Shayne O’Dea.
Shayne comes to us with a wealth of playing and coaching experience and we are
very excited to have him a part of our club.
Gaza wishes to thank the other applicants, who were of a very high standard.
With our coaching staff again settled and good numbers on the track we eagerly
look forward to the coming SAAFL season in Div 1, 1 res, C1 & under 18s.
We are looking for footballers for all grades
from Div 1, reserves, C1 and under 18s
We are pleased to announce our new Senior Coach
Nathan Grainger D1 coach
2008 Senior coach Darren Mead has resigned and is pursuing his coaching career at SANFL level. We thank Darren, Julie, Mitchell
and Jackson for their time at Gaza and
wish them well.
We had an early finish to the year finishing 6th & the reserves 9th. A
disappointing year but we have much to look forward to going forward with some
fantastic youngsters coming through the newly reformed under
18 team. The C1’s again competed in the finals but also went out early losing
to Goodwood Saints in the first week.
The search is now on in earnest for the right person to replace Darren.
Well done to Hayden Fowler who coached the reserves under difficult
conditions, Porky with the C’s and a special mention to Mike Cini who did a
wonderful job with the 18’s.
The victorious B grade side. Division 1 Reserve premiers 2007
GAZA plays in Division 1 of the SAAFL which is affiliated with the SANFL
Our seniors have played finals every year since 1999 and won 2 premierships in
that time. The last in 2003, our centenary year.
It is testament to the strength of our club that we are able to attract
people the calibre of Darren Mead and his predecessors Greg Anderson (1986 Magarey
Medallist) Wayne Weidemann and Andrew
Jarman (1987 and 1997 Magarey Medallist). All four are former AFL and state players
and all were or are SANFL coaches.
Due to our successful profile, all SANFL clubs keep an eye on GAZA and quite a
number of our players have been invited to play at league level.
We usually field between 3 amd 5 men's teams each year depending on demand. If you
would like to play at a strong club with top quality coaches and think you could
go further, there's no better place to start your football career than GAZA.
Alternatively, you may just want to play for the social aspects and camaraderie
and you'd be most welcome.

THAT'S A LOT OF GAMES
We all raise our glasses and salute a couple of Gaza stalwarts in Tony "T.H."
Huemmer and John Sugars. On June 30th T.H. played his 400th senior game for
Gaza, while John notched up "a mere" 300 games. When you consider both these men
played junior football at Gaza, they have probably accumulated over 1,000 games
between them at the home of football.
